Front brake disk replacement

Post by Dobbs on Thu Mar 05, 2015 8:07 am

Hi folks,

Quick question regarding replacing the front brake disks n pads - how 'easy' is it to push back the brake caliper? Does it need to be compressed and rotated at the same time - I had a mare replacing the rears without the special tool...

Any advice would be great as it's time to replace disks and pads - oh yes, any advice on the best disks/pads/places to buy from would also be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Dobbs.

Hi Dobbs, I had a VW specialist do mine (my neighbour Very Happy )

I bought front and back MTEC brake discs - drilled and grooved and Mintex pads from here...

I can honestly say that the performance for £160 is excellent. You would not be disappointed.

Hi, thanks for the information - I'll check out the disks and pads.  Would it be possible to ask your VW specialist about compressing the caliper - does it need to be rotated and compressed at the same time?

Thanks again,

Dobbs.

Hi,

The disks and pads look good and would be a nice addition to my V5, especially at a cost of £75 for the parts.

Does anyone know if you'd have to inform your insurance company when fitting drilled and grooved disks as I believe they are classed as a 'performance enhancer' and I know that LV do not allow any 'performance enhancing' modifications on their policies... Sad
